They were running now, Glenn felt the damp air burning his lungs as his sprinted for the corner of the stable behind his companions. His Illusion had worked. The image of a pirate crying “they’re getting away!” and pointing out behind the manor house had drawn off the pirates searching for them. Now for reasons he didn’t quite understand they were running the wrong way. This was their chance to escape the pirates stronghold. There were horses in the barn, the way was clear and yet they ran farther into the complex not out. He understood that they had come to find the girl but this was over their heads. The witch and her consorts had nearly killed them all back at the stable. Now having barely caught their breaths they ran for the manor house as the search continued in the distance. Through the main doors their luck held for a moment until they stumbled into the dining hall. Gedron the pirate leader was there with Ignar and Euldon his lieutenants and a fair half dozen pirates. They fought well for a time but slowly the odds wore them down. The Paladin fell first then the Cleric and the Ranger disappeared, had they withdrawn? Had he missed the signal to retreat? No matter now it was past time to leave. Too late! Blows rained down driving him to the floor as blackness fell around him he saw the rogue fall. Suddenly a commotion from the dining hall, someone was attacking the pirates from the rear! Glenn crawled to the rogue pouring his last healing potion into him and then dragging him to the door. Pushing outside they ran again on the last of their strength headed for the door of another of the complex’s towers they burst through into a granary of sorts. No matter, they ran up the stairs to the upper levels seeking a way out. Up two floors and out a window across a section of wall to the next tower with the rogue half carrying him they made their escape down the exterior wall.
